MacBook Pro Retina–Closing lid does not always put laptop to sleep–Overheats in Bag

I updated my MacBook Pro Retina with latest fix for Sleep + Nap. Today on my way to work, I closed the lid of the MacBook Pro, and when I got into the office, I took it out my bag and it was running extremely hot! I was surprised, as closing the lid should put it to sleep and not consume so much power. This is extremely dangerous for such an expensive laptop and should be fixed asap, this is unacceptable Apple, please fix this asap.

I run OSX Mountain Lion 10.8 (All UPDATES are installed)

  • Parallels
  • Carbon Copy
  • Diablo
  • Chrome

MacBook Pro with Retina display, iOS 5.1.1

This is unacceptable big time, and allot of other people are having problems with the MacBook Pro Retina and sleep mode when closing the lid. In fact I would go so far as to say it is a Health and Safety issue and if they don’t fix it asap, a possible mass recall on the laptops, it does not take much for this laptop to overheat in a bag if sleep did not work, and there is no light to verify if it went to sleep successfully.

Lots of people having issues here:

    Same problem here !!

This just happened to me too. MacBook Pro Retina…

  4. Same here! I was on my way to work today, just as you described. Opened my laptop bag and the fan was running like crazy and hot as hell even though I had closed the lid. You couldn’t hold the computer without getting your hand burnt.

I let it cool down at work and now it works fine. But damn!

Same here, several times. It also happened after sending to sleep from the Apple menu

Happened to me too. But I’m using a Macbook Pro late 2011 (no retina). I found out that I need to unplug all connecting USB, and the Mag safe adapter BEFORE closign the lid. If you close the lid before pulling out those items, it will still run.

However, occasionally it still keeps running even if I’ve pulled out all the wires and cables. And I end up in the office with a hot laptop. For such an expensive device and from a company that proclaims “it just works”, this is disappointing.

Even i am facing same heating issues rMBP 13″ even after opening the lid it does not cool down for couple of hours NOR it can boot (it cools & boot up only after battery is drained completely)
